The curved profile allows the surgeon to drive the needle through tissue with a natural rotational wrist motion, improving accuracy and reducing hand fatigue — particularly in deep or confined surgical sites.

Curved needles are available in multiple curvatures to suit different tissue depths and wound geometries, including 1/4 circle for ophthalmic and superficial work, 3/8 circle for general soft tissue surgery, 1/2 circle for deep cavities and confined spaces, and 5/8 circle for urogenital and rectal procedures.
