Collection details
SutureVet's monofilament veterinary sutures are manufactured from a single continuous strand of material, offering smooth tissue passage, minimal bacterial wicking, and low tissue reactivity compared to braided alternatives. These properties make monofilament sutures the preferred choice for many veterinary surgical applications where infection risk, tissue drag, and post-operative reactivity must be carefully managed.
Our monofilament range includes both absorbable options — such as poliglecaprone (Monocryl equivalent) and polydioxanone (PDS equivalent) — for internal tissue layers requiring temporary support, and non-absorbable monofilament materials such as nylon and polypropylene for skin closure, orthopaedic applications, and cardiovascular surgery. The smooth surface of monofilament sutures reduces the risk of bacterial colonisation and biofilm formation, making them particularly valuable in contaminated or infection-prone surgical sites.
Available across a comprehensive range of gauges from heavy 0 and 1 for large animal and orthopaedic work down to ultra-fine 5-0 and 6-0 for ophthalmic and exotic species surgery. All products are supplied sterile and individually packaged from ISO-certified manufacturers trusted by veterinary surgeons across the UK.

LUXSUTURES® Luxylene Polypropylene sutures are non-absorbable monofilament surgical sutures designed for secure and long-term wound closure. Manufactured from isotactic polypropylene, these sutures offer excellent tensile strength with minimal tissue reaction, making them suitable for procedures requiring permanent wound support.
The smooth monofilament construction ensures easy passage through tissue while reducing drag and minimising bacterial adherence. The blue colour improves intraoperative visibility, supporting accurate placement and knot security.
This variant features a DS 19 reverse cutting needle, engineered to provide controlled penetration of tougher tissues such as skin. The reverse cutting geometry reduces the risk of tissue tearing while enabling clean, precise incision edges. Supplied sterile and single-use, these sutures are suitable for hospital, clinical, and veterinary environments.
